Rand Water strike and other possible public servant strikes.

Rand water has received written notice from the South African Municipal Workers union (SAMWU) of their intention to embark on a strike on the 21st of April 2021.

The strike is as a result of lack of consultation between the Employee affiliate unions and Rand Water regarding the non-payment of employee’s performance incentive bonuses.

Rand Water has ensured that they have adequate systems in place to supply bulk portable water to their customers.

Labour Unions have also threatened that other public servants such as doctors and nurses may also down tools due to an impasse in wage negotiations with Government.

The Building Construction & Allied Workers Union (BCAWU) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) have both formally declared a dispute with the country’s civil engineering employers’ organisations in terms of the constitution of the Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) due to wage negotiations reaching a stalemate.
