The country will hold its seventh democratic election in May. According to a statement issued by the Presidency, President Cyril Ramaphosa has, in accordance with section 49(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, read with section 17 of the Electoral act of 1998, determined 29 May 2024, as the date for the 2024 General National and Provincial elections.

The 23rd of February was the final day for South Africans to register for the upcoming polls, meaning that no new registrations can take place.

The President has proclaimed the day of the election, 29 May 2024, as a public holiday throughout the Republic.
