The National Bargaining Council for the Wood and Paper Sector – Renewal and Extension of the Dispute Resolution Levy and Registration

The National Bargaining Council for the Wood and Paper Sector (NBCWPS) recently secured a renewal and extension of its Dispute Resolution Levy and Registration of Employers Collective Agreement. This extension applies to both parties and non-parties in the sector, ensuring continued enforcement of collective agreements and dispute resolution mechanisms under the Labour Relations Act.

Key Details:

  1. Dispute Resolution Levy
  • Employers contribute R6 per employee monthly, supplemented by an equal employer-matched contribution totalling R12 per employee per month. These funds support dispute resolution mechanisms, including conciliation and arbitration processes.
  1. Registration of Employers
  • Applies to all employers in the wood and paper sector, regardless of party status. Employers must register with the Council and comply with collective agreements extended to non-parties via ministerial declaration.

The renewal and extension come into effect from 13 March 2025 and remains valid for a period of twelve months.
