Temporary Relocation of Labour Court Courtrooms
The Labour Court of South Africa in Johannesburg is temporarily relocating its operations due to ongoing renovations at its Braamfontein premises, expected to conclude by June 2026. Directive 03 of 2025, issued by Judge President E. Molahlehi on 17 December 2025, outlines these arrangements effective from 2 January 2026. No physical court proceedings will occur at the Braamfontein site until renovations finish.
Administrative Operations
All administrative functions, including the Registrar’s Office, move to the 5th Floor at 86 Juta Street, Braamfontein, from 2 January 2026. Services cover front desk assistance, filing, Court Online, enrolment, and general enquiries. This setup supports all non-hearing operations during renovations.
Trial Hearings
Trial proceedings shift to the Gauteng Division of the High Court, Johannesburg, at Pritchard Street and Kruis Street. Weekly roll calls under Rule 32(1) occur virtually via Microsoft Teams every Friday at 09:45, allocating matters to courtrooms 8C, 8D, or 8E for the following week. Parties receive Teams invitations in advance from the judge’s clerk.
Motion Hearings
Unopposed motions, contempt applications, and interlocutory proceedings take place at the Land Court, 18 Hill Street, Ferndale, Randburg. Opposed motions proceed virtually via Microsoft Teams. Pretoria North Magistrate Court motions continue in open court as scheduled.
Urgent Applications
All urgent applications occur virtually on Microsoft Teams. Unrepresented or indigent litigants can access virtual facilities on the 5th Floor at 86 Juta Street in Braamfontein with one day’s prior notice to the judge’s clerk. These measures ensure accessibility during the relocation period.
