The National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI) has concluded a two-year wage agreement and ensured that the Minister of Employment and Labour extended the agreement to non-parties in terms of section 32 of the Labour Relations Act.
The Wage Agreement will see industry workers receive an Across-The-Board (ATB) increase as follows:
- Year One (1 March 2025 – 28 February 2026):
- 7% ATB increase for all employees, including Extended Bargaining Unit (EBU) employees up to Paterson Grade B4.
- 6% ATB increase for EBU employees in Paterson Grade C1.
- Year Two (1 March 2026 – 28 February 2027):
- 6% ATB increase for all employees, including EBU employees up to Paterson Grade B4.
- 5% ATB increase for EBU employees in Paterson Grade C1.
In addition, the Agreement will ensure workers receive an ATB-aligned increase of 7% in year one and 6% in year two on the following allowances:
- Consolidated allowance
- Night shift allowance
- Subsistence and cross-border allowance
- Dangerous goods allowance
The NBCRFLI commends the parties for their commitment in reaching a wage agreement which contributes to the labour stability seen in the Road Freight and Logistics Industry since the last industrial action in 2012.
The signatories to the Wage Agreement are trade unions: Motor Transport Workers Union of South Africa (MTWU) and South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU), and employer associations: The Road Freight Association (RFA) and National Employers’ Association of South Africa (NEASA).
