Newsflash! Collective Agreement extended to non-parties: Bargaining Council for the Fishing Industry

On 29 November 2024 the Minister of Employment and Labour published a notice that the Collective Agreement concluded in the Bargaining Council for the Fishing Industry be extended to non-parties. This means that the conditions specified therein shall be binding on the parties who concluded the collective agreement and on the other employers and employees in that industry.

 

The collective agreement comes into effect from 9 December 2024 and for the period ending 31 December 2026.

 

This agreement aims to advance economic development and social justice by fulfilling the primary objects by giving effect to and regulating the right to fair labour practices conferred by section 23 of the Constitution of South Africa 1996, by establishing and enforcing basic conditions of employment in the scope of the Council for employees employed on vessels at sea excluded from the Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
