NEWSFLASH: Cancellation of Previous Extensions of the Main Collective Agreement for the Furniture Manufacturing Industry in KwaZulu-Natal

The Minister of Employment and Labour has officially cancelled several Government Notices that previously extended the Main Collective Agreement for the Furniture Manufacturing Industry in KwaZulu-Natal to non-parties. This action has been taken under section 32(7) of the Labour Relations Act No. 66 of 1995 and will come into effect on 11 August 2025.

Clients are advised that the earlier extensions granted to non-parties according to the cancelled notices will cease to have effect as of this date. Consequently, any compliance or operational obligations arising from those extensions are hereby withdrawn. For continued operations and regulatory compliance, stakeholders should refer to the current binding Main Collective Agreement published alongside the Minister’s notice. This agreement delineates the updated terms, conditions, and standards applicable to employers and employees in the Furniture Manufacturing Industry within KwaZulu-Natal and remains in force until 30 June 2027.

We strongly recommend that all employers within this sector thoroughly review these changes and update their employment contracts, workplace policies, and operational procedures accordingly.
