On 29 September 2023, the Minister of Employment and Labour published a notice extending the operation of the Agency Shop Fee Collective Agreement to non-parties for a period of 12 months from the effective date. The Agreement was concluded by the Bargaining Council for the Furniture Manufacturing Industry of KwaZulu-Natal. The Director of Collective Bargaining has now published a notice extending the initial period of 12 months with a further period ending on 10 October 2025.

The objective of this agreement is to ensure that all employees and employers in the scope of the Council who receive the benefits of collective bargaining contribute towards its costs. It requires employers within the industry to deduct an Agency Shop Fee equal to R20 per week from all employees’ weekly wages if such employees are not members of the National Union of Furniture and Allied Workers of South Africa. Such fees must be paid to the Council by the 15th of each month following the month when these deductions were required to have been made from the employees’ wages.

Any person bound by this Agreement may apply for exemption from its provisions in terms of Section 7 of the original agreement.
