The Registrar of Labour Relations, in terms of section 106(2A) of the Labour Relations Act No. 66 of 1995, cancelled the registration of the National Associated Municipal Trade Union (NAMTU) (LR2/6/2/1913). The cancellation is effective from 6 August 2024, and the name of the Union has been removed from the Register of Trade Unions.
The cancellation is based on the failure to comply with the following provisions of the Labour Relations Act and for the Union ceasing to function in terms of its constitution.
- Section 98 – Accounting Records and Audits
- Section 99 – Duty to keep records
- Section 100 – Duty to provide information to the registrar
Deregistration of the union means it loses all rights and protections extended to registered trade unions under the Labour Relations Act, including organisational rights and the right to bargain collectively.
