About the presenter
Rob Nowicki
Rob Nowicki has been involved in the design, development and management of Payroll, HR and Personal Tax technologies for well over forty years, both locally and internationally. He was a founder of one of the first PC based Payroll / HR applications in South Africa, which was ultimately merged into the then QData Group, one of the leading ICT and a Top 100 Company in the 90’s.
This merger was the catalyst for the consolidation of the two leading systems at the time, namely the Qpac Payroll System and the Profile HR Management System into a new product, known as UNIQUE. UNIQUE became one of the most widely used applications of its kind in South Africa and enjoyed a very successful life of well over 30 years.
With the advent of the internet in the late 90’s Rob and his team pioneered the concept of cloud- based Payroll, HR and tax services in South Africa, with the ground up, innovative development and successful launch of PSIberWORKS (Now known as Labournet Payroll). Labournet Payroll was the first system of its kind available to the South African market, the service still being widely used across a vast number of companies of all sizes and in all industries.
During the early years of Labournet Payroll, an ancillary service called MyTax was launched which assisted taxpayers in effortlessly completing their tax returns and facilitating tax payments to SARS. This application later merged with Tax Break and through a Private, Public Partnership (PPT) with the South African Revenue Service, the hugely popular SARS e-filing service was birthed, which today services many millions of individuals as well as corporate taxpayers.
Today Rob serves as a Manco member of the Payroll Authors Group of South Africa, a non-profit organisation founded nearly 30 years ago, that engages with SARS and other government departments on legislative matters which impact employees and employers and interprets how such legislation will impact payroll systems in general.
Rob’s extensive knowledge of employee / employer related payroll and tax matters, both from a technology as well as a legislative perspective, coupled with his ability to convey these often-complicated subjects, in a relaxed and easy to understand manner, has made him a popular speaker at a variety of seminars and conferences.
