Course Overview

The objective of the "A Practical Guide to Retrenchments course" is to help you to gain a better understanding of the principles and practices in respect of South African Labour Laws. This applies when initiating and conducting a disciplinary hearing for employees who transgress employment practices, thereby avoiding unfair labour practice that may result in disciplinary actions being overturned by the relevant legislative bodies.

This course will enable Learners to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of substantive and procedural fairness
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the selection criteria used when retrenching employees
  • Determine the alternative options in employment to avoid retrenchment
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and apply the requirements for the issuing of a notice of intention to dismiss.
  • Prepare for facilitation meetings.
  • Conduct facilitation meetings
  • Complete the facilitation meetings.

Learning assumed to be in place

  • Communicate effectively - at least NQF level 5
