New Minimum Wage for Domestic Workers

On the 24th November 2014, the Minister of Labour, Mildred Oliphant, in terms of Section 56(1) of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, amended Sectoral Determination 7: Domestic Worker Sector.
 
The new minimum wage, which will be effective as of the 1st December 2014, is as follows: 

For employees working a maximum of 45 hours:

Area A

(Areas not mentioned in Area A)
Hourly Rate: R9.30
Weekly Rate: R418.32
Monthly Rate: R1812.57 

For employees working 27 ordinary hours or less:

Area A

Hourly Rate: R12.40
Weekly Rate: R337.74
Monthly Rate: R1450.33 

Area B

Hourly Rate: R10.98
Weekly Rate: R296.35
Monthly Rate: R1284.09
 
The above minimum wages will be effective as of the 1st December 2014.
